Drill Down Technique

christof

The aim is to break a problem down to its constituent parts so that a solution can be planned for each of the problem’s elements.

Here is the cycle of this method:

1. Write down the problem!

Define and name the problem.

2. Find out causes and circumstances

Next level of detail on the problem:

  • Factors contributing to the problem
  • Information relating to it
  • Questions raised by it

Example

Problem

Clients complain of a lack of responsiveness

Causes

Too busy to send emails

Bad timekeeping

Failure to get the work completed in the expected time

scheduling
